Recycle from Clothing - Crochet Tip #58

If you have old clothing that is going to be thrown away, check it thoroughly to see what you can recycle.

  • Save the buttons. They work well for eyes or decorations on your crochet projects.
  • Pockets and zippers may come in handy as an embellishment.
  • Some clothing may have unique designs that can be sewn on to a crochet hat or afghan.
This is a great way to stretch your crafting budget. Please share your ideas on what you recycle and use with crafting.

Hi there,
I save lots of old clothing for the same reasons you've listed but another great idea is to save a childs skirt or pair of jeans and sew them in the correct places to make a sentimental bag! Another idea is to cut around a pocket and sew it onto a handmade bag, this is a great way of holding onto and utilising one of your favourite pieces of old clothing or your childs, it becomes useful instead of just putting ina box in the attic.
I've also unravelled old jumpers and crocheted the wool into something new!!
I make small stuffed animals so saving fabrics with smaller prints works brilliantly for the animals clothing, more to scale.
Us crafters now how to economize don't we!!!
