Crochet is repeating stitches. It may be the same stitch or a series of various stitches.
Pattern Stitches are sets of stitches being repeated. A set of repeated stitches may include 1 row or several rows to complete the pattern stitch.
An Afghan with simple to intricate designs, is made up of sets of rows, that are repeated for the length of the afghan.
When making a Granny Square there will be 4 sets of repeated stitches on each round, since a granny has 4 sides.
When making a Doily, there will be sets of repeated stitches for each round. Some doilies may have an obvious flat side where others may be round, square or oval shape.

Hi Teresa,
What is the difference between using an aluminum hook and a steel hook? I see where the steel hook is called for in some patterns. I want to buy a size D hook. Which one should I buy?
Thank you,
Geneva
